Product Description
Maca is an ancient remedy for the problems of today!
Maca is now emerging from obscurity and near-extinction to take its place among the most valuable herbs known to mankind.
According to doctors in the US and Peru, only 2 teaspoons to 2 tablespoons of Imperial Gold Maca powder at the start of each day (in water, juice or in food) is an excellent alternative to artificial hormones.
“Even as a Master Herbalist, I do not give black cohosh or wild yam to people. When you give the body a hormone ~ even a plant-derived hormone ~ the organs and glands which manufacture that hormone will age prematurely since the hormone is already present. Maca strengthens the organs and glands that produce hormones, so the body doesn’t need supplemental hormones. It is absolutely the best product I’ve ever used for hot flashes.” ~ Barbara Rogers, M.H.
Studies conducted at Product Safety Labs of East Brunswick, New Jersey showed absolutely no toxicity and no adverse pharmacological effects of Maca.
The following statements are permitted under Section 6 of the DSHEA (Dietary Supplemental Health and Education Act) for Maca:
* Increases Energy, Stamina and Mental Clarity
It is not a stimulant, but balances the endocrine system-thyroid, pituitary, pancreas and adrenal glands.
* Promotes stamina and endurance, as well as both physical and mental energy and clarity.
* Supports the Thyroid
* Supports Normal Sexual Function
* Promotes Hormone Balance
* Strengthens the Immune System
Traditionally, native medicine practitioners and herbalists have recommended Maca for:
* Restoring Balance (homeostasis) to the Body.
Stress depletes the body's ability to maintain balance, creating an increased susceptibility to health and sexual problems.
* Well-Being, Vitality, Emotional Balance and Stamina
* Decreasing Anxiety and Stress
* Male Impotency and Erectile Dysfunction-Nature's Viagra!
* Increasing Sexual Function in both men and women
* Slowing and even reversing the Aging Process and keeping the skin youthful
* Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia
* Lowering Blood Pressure
* Improving Sleep
* Fertility Imbalance (both male and female sterility)
* Reversing Osteoporosis
* Thyroid Insufficiency - due to its high iodine content (hypothyroid symptoms include dry skin, deep fatigue, insomnia, memory loss, depression)
* Treating Acne in Teenagers by balancing hormones
* PMS and Menopausal Symptoms, such as hot flashes, night sweats, breast tenderness, insomnia, moodiness and mood swings, depression, decreased libido, vaginal dryness, constipation, itchy skin, cold feet, heart pounding, bone loss and brain fog

Maca can be taken by everyone, from Infants to Grandparents!
Maca works by encouraging the glands of the body to produce the hormones it needs, according to each individual's unique requirements. If synthetic hormones, or even phytoestrogens such as black cohosh, soy, licorice root or wild yam, are circulating in the body, they send a message to the pituitary and the hypothalamus that there is a sufficient quantity of hormones in the body, so they stop producing them, and the glands begin to atrophy.
Imperial Gold Maca is 100% natural, and is a whole food - unadulterated and naturally pure, just as Mother Nature intended. Beware of fake or inferior, non-organic, irradiated imposters! Only the root has medicinal properties not the stem and leaves.
Imperial Gold Maca is one of the very few Maca products to be produced at the National University of Agriculture at La Molina, Peru, where clinical trial studies have been performed with its development of Gelatinized Maca and its potent properties and absorption abilities. This special extraction process developed by researchers at the National University simply holds the natural strength of the root as if it were just picked.
WHAT IS MACA?
Maca is a cruciferous root vegetable, which belongs to the same botanical family as cabbage, broccoli, kale, cauliflower, radish and turnip, which is native to the Andean mountains of Peru. It has grown wild for thousands of years at altitudes of 11,000 to 15, 000 feet above sea level in extreme weather conditions such as freezing cold, snow, hail, intense sunlight and very strong winds, probably the worst weather in the world for growing anything. Despite these seemingly unfavorable weather conditions, the volcanic soil is rich in minerals and is free of chemicals, and the plant also benefits from the purest air, sunlight and rain in the world. Apparently, the tougher the environment, the more resilient the plant and the greater its medicinal value. Maca has the distinction and honor of being the highest growing food plant in the world.
THE NUTRITIONAL VALUE OF MACA
Maca is very nutritious, both micro- and macrobiotically. It is easy to digest, even for the elderly and for those individuals with digestive disorders. It is rich in:
* Complex Carbohydrates (starches and sugars)- the principal source for human energy
* Traces of 31 Minerals (Maca's easily absorbable calcium makes up 10% of Maca's mineral count. It also contains significant amounts of magnesium and potassium, with iron, silica (very useful in treating the decalcification of bones in adults and children) and phosphorus, and traces of sulfur, iodine, manganese, zinc, copper, tin and sodium)
* Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B12, C, D and E
* Fiber
* Protein
Maca also contains:
* 2 of the 3 essential fatty acids (which aid in controlling blood pressure, blood clotting, inflammation, the maintenance of healthy skin and hair, and the absorption and transport of vitamins A, D, E and K) that your body requires
* 7 of the 9 essential amino acids (which are the building blocks of proteins which are the main component of muscles, tendons, ligaments, organs and glands)
* 5 natural sterols (which are important components in fats that form hormones and cellular membranes, and help lower blood cholesterol)
* And almost 60 different biologically active phytonutrients, including alkaloids, tannins and saponins, which are likely responsible for many of Maca's benefits
Yet Maca contains no cholesterol, and is low in calories and fat.
THE HISTORY OF MACA
Thousands of years ago (some say the use of Maca dates back to pre-Inca times, to 8000 B.C.), farmers in Peru noticed that when their animals grazed in areas where the Maca grew, they became much healthier, hardier, stronger, tended to copulate more, and had a much higher fertility rate. They decided to try Maca themselves both as a food and a medicine, and found that it made them much more energetic and stronger, better able to withstand the high altitude and harsh climate, and that it also made them more sexually active and fertile, as well. The root was so revered by the natives that it was offered to the gods, along with corn and potatoes.
Historical records show that the natives eventually shared the Maca secret with the Conquistadores, and that the effects on the Spaniards and their livestock were so dramatic that the Conquistadores began demanding that the natives pay their taxes with Maca instead of gold!
Over the centuries, the recorded knowledge of Maca's properties as an aphrodisiac and fertility, strength and energy enhancer was passed down. However, that knowledge remained primarily the secret of the Incas and native Peruvians, and for all of its amazing history, in the 1990's, Maca was in danger of extinction.
In 1979, the Peruvian Department of Agriculture found only about 70 acres of Maca under cultivation in the entire country!
Maca was "re-discovered" in the early 1960's by an undergraduate biology student at the University of Lima. Dr. Gloria Chacon de Popivici, who is the scientist responsible for most of the current knowledge of the maca plant and its amazing properties, wrote her dissertation on the maca root and did groundbreaking work on the plant by discovering a new species, and by analyzing its chemical activities, she pinpointed their hormonal, energizing and fertility effects.
In the 1990's, thanks again to Dr. Chacon who published her study, Maca and its abilities, and her book The Importance of the Lepidium Peruvianum Chacon (MACA) in the nutrition and health of the human and animal 2000 years before and after Christ in the twenty first century, Maca has made a comeback, and laboratories and departments of sciences in Peruvian and international universities have once again acknowledged its value.
